Junior Technical Support Specialist
The Junior Technical Support Specialist will assist other Technical Support Specialists in providing support to select Small and Medium sized businesses (clients) in the use of Information Technology Resources.
This is initially a half time position, moving to full-time within 4– 6 months.
Accountabilities
- Effective problem resolution and services to a small – medium sized business including provision of technical expertise and training
- Performs routine maintenance and periodic upgrades on Windows workstations, Small Business Servers and SMB Networking equipment
- Monitoring of present systems
- Configures, updates and maintains client’s workstations and peripherals
- Incorporates emerging technologies in the upkeep of client’s systems
- Provides routine hardware and software assistance to clients
- Performs routine hardware and software evaluations
- Provides software support on current PC operating systems Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7
- Provides software support on desktop application packages (i.e. MS Office Suite, QuickBooks, Web Browsers)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Formal Education in Information Technology with 1 year work experience in a related field.
- Strong Analytical problem solving skills
- A+ Certification preferred
- Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Operating Systems
- Knowledge and experience with Personal Computer hardware & software, and the ability to troubleshoot
- Knowledge and experience in Microsoft productivity applications (MS Office, MS Project)
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with users with varying levels of technical expertise
- Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail, good problem solving skills, ability to handle multiple priorities and meet short deadlines
- Ability to work effectively with a small group of managers/staff – a team player
- A professional approach and positive attitude with a willingness to learn new technology showing initiative
- Ability to be discreet and to maintain confidential information
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Physical ability to move equipment
- Access to a car (a must) – this role will involve visiting client sites in and around the Calgary area
- Self-starter, able to work independently
- Must be legally able to work in Canada
- Must be willing to provide a clean criminal record check
Additional Desired Skills
- Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Small Business Server 2008 or 2011
- Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Server 2003/2008
- Knowledge and experience in Active Directory structure, use and troubleshooting
- Introductory knowledge and interest in Cloud computing
- Introductory knowledge and interest in Virtualization
- Strong willingness to learn existing and new technologies
- Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server
